Bishop Vincent Long
Welcome to the Diocese of Parramatta. I am honoured, humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve the Church in Parramatta. As guided by my motto “go further into the deep” (Lk 5:4), I am pleased that we cast into the deep interior of Western Sydney, all the way to the beautiful Blue Mountains and the fertile plains of the Hawkesbury River.

Bishop’s Good Shepherd Appeal
Support our seminarians to “go out into the deep.”
We are blessed to have seven seminarians anchored in their faith and education willing to “go out into the deep” to serve our faith community.
Macky Amores, Menard Gaspi, Jeffrey Hood, Luke Huynh, Jason Irawan, Paul Tran, and Jose Valentine Lim are not just studying at our Holy Spirit Seminary; they’re also actively present in our community, ministering to their flocks and nurturing faith.
It takes at least seven years of intense study, vocational and human preparation, and guidance for God’s ministry.
On their journey to the priesthood, our future priests need our faith community’s prayers, accompaniment, and financial support.
Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald Public Lecture
The Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations and the Diocese of Parramatta present a public lecture by Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald entitled: “Interreligious Dialogue in our Day: 60 Years after Nostra Aetate” on Wednesday 8 May at 6pm at St Patrick’s Cathedral Hall, Parramatta.
Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald, M.Afr.OBE, former head of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, will talk on the developments inspired by Vatican II’s Nostra Aetate, the prophetic document which ushered in a new era in Catholic relations with people of other religions. The Church’s teaching and practice of inter-religious dialogue developed dramatically over these past 60 years but largely remains a “hidden treasure” which needs to be discovered.
Diocesan Synod Report
Over the weekend of 13 – 15 October 2023, the Diocese of Parramatta successfully concluded its inaugural Synod, a momentous event that brought together 280 faithful from across Western Sydney, the Blue Mountains, and beyond to discuss the future of the local Church.
The culmination of over six months of listening and consultation sessions, the Synod was a gathering of 200 selected Members to discuss, discern, and vote on 25 resolutions under the six key themes that were raised as part of the consultation sessions.
The Bishop has released a Summary Report summarising the discussions and outcomes from the first Diocesan Synod Assembly, which you can download alongside our other Synod Resources.
